Title: Message-Id added locally??
Post by: terriz on February 21, 2006, 01:44:21 pm
I've been using a service that examines email to make sure nothing in it will trip spam filters. One warning I get with every email sent from LMP is this:
Quote
Message envelope failed 1 compliance check.

Message-Id for external message added locally.
The mandatory "Message-ID" header was missing from the email you sent and was added by the receiving mail server.

Of course this is Greek to me...is this a real problem? How can I fix it?

Thanks,
Terri Z

Hi Terri,

What service are you using to analyze your emails?  It sounds interesting and worth checking out.

From what I know the sending server should set the "Message-ID" header automatically and ListMail should not need to generate it.  I would like to run some tests by trying the service you're using to see if results are the same sending from alternate server/mailer types.

Hi Dean,
The analyzer is called Content Consultant http://www.towerdata.com/services/email/deliverability/index.html. It used to be free but they just got bought out and I'm on the last few weeks of a 30-day trial (it's just not worth it to pay for!)

I tried sending just a plain email from my domain (same server) and it didn't trigger this "error"...

Thanks!

I have signed up for the free trial and will give it a go as soon as I hear back from support about my test email address - it didn't seem to come with signup as it was supposed to.
