I have been considering this for a while and figured I'd throw up a post for some existing listmail users out there...

I am considering taking a fork of Listmail Pro and continuing it's development.

Under a new name of course and new code, etc, but it would be listmail pro - ish ( at first ) until further changes are made, etc...

I really just want to get a feel for what kind of response and support there would be for something like this out there? I would also even consider offering email marketing specific hosting, etc like dean did at one point.

Please feel free to throw in any kind of feedback, etc, thanks!

When did LMP become open-source?

For a commercial application like this I don't think you can just make a fork and start selling it as your own. But if that is the case then I don't mind giving myself free Private Label Source Code rights to it also.

I did sell email hosting services for LMP users a few years ago. It was a bit of a nightmare, so I don't recommend it.

I don't believe it has become open source and copying/forking from it isn't my intentions...

As I stated above there would be "new code, etc". It would be all new fresh code rewritten and would be ListmailPro-ish.

I just wanted to get a feel for what kind of market there would be out there for this and judging by this thread that is basically none.

As far as listmail hosting I don't think it'd be that hard, I have managed my own servers for years and dealt with emailing, etc as well.

Mike,

Forking implies taking the existing code and improving upon it, not writing code from scratch.

I already build my own email software from scratch and it is better than Interspire Email Marketer, but I'm using it for my own ESP. However given your post I'm toying with the idea of forking *that* code to sell to the crowd LMP was marketed to.

If you have an easy way to resell servers with reasonable IP blocks (like /27s) and RDNS let me know, maybe I can package and sell my software and send you the customers for hosting it.

Hi,

I'm curious what is up with this? As suggested Dean never gave anyone rights to the code, Mike, I don't believe you have any rights to take a fork and use it either. I have little respect for doing that, you own rights to use the software, not to take it and re-sell it, even if Dean is not around.

I suggest you start from scratch, learn how difficult it is to write software and go from there.

I would never just copy Listmail, lol...

I just saw what interspire is all about, really cool software, but expensive too for only one user. If yours is better, why don't you sell it ? Say, for the price we paid for this listmail thing, drive interspire out of business...
