Title: Moving to new host

I have been having a lot of problems with my listmail on the old server and am moving to another one with a dedicated IP. I moved all of my files over with no problem, set up a new mysql database, changed the config.php with the new info.

I exported the current mysql to my desktop, unzipped it, renamed the extension .lm, and tried to upload it into my leadgen file folder on the new host. Getting an error and it won't upload.

Response:   200 PORT command successful
Command:   STOR localhost.lm
Response:   550 localhost.lm: Permission denied
Error:   Upload failed

Then I tried going in to PHPAdmin to import the database, but can't find a command to do that.

I ftp'd all of my files over to the new host, but don't want to change my dns pointers until the new site is up and running, as clients are adding new emails every day.

I am using v1.84 now, I have downloaded v1.85, should I update before running my new site or just get everything working first? I have been having trouble sending mail through the smtp server at the old host, and you had recommended that I either use direct (which I am doing) or move servers (which I am also doing!)

Any ideas? I am an old customer and if necessary don't mind spending a few bucks to have your help...

I wonder if you are uploading to the wrong folder? Perhaps you are trying to upload to your home/main directory and not your web folder.

I recommend that you do a full MySQL dump to "tar.gz" compressed format. You can import the file on the new host from PhpMyAdmin. Click the (new) ListMail database, click "SQL", and click "Upload file" and upload the tar.gz file directly for processing!

I did as you said, but the zipped file is over 9 meg, and the SQL function I was trying to do on the new host says 2 meg max. ??

Post by: DW on December 07, 2005, 09:06:16 am: Okay, you should be able to unzip the file then upload it with the .LM extension to have it recognized by ListMail's restore feature.

I'm not sure why you got a permission denied error when uploading - again, perhaps you were in the wrong folder, one you don't have permissions in?

Post by: DW on December 07, 2005, 08:18:24 pm: This is strange.. You should have full permission with your FTP user to upload to your FTP accessible directories. Try renaming the file to something like ".txt" then rename it to ".LM" remotely.

Are you sure you're not trying to upload to /mail which might be a system mail folder instead of /public_html/mail (with "public_html" being the name of your main web folder) the default ListMail folder?

I am at my wits' end, as they are shutting down the previous server any day and I have clients who won't be happy.

Should we reinstall v1.85 on the new server as a new install and try from scratch?

Good news. I got the file uploaded. When I go to the login I get this message:

Could not select database
MySQL Error: Access denied for user: 'l**p@localhost' to database 'l**n'
How do I restore the database to get the file and tables in?

Post by: DW on December 17, 2005, 01:49:56 am: What you need to do is set up a new MySQL database, username and password on the new host. Next "run" the .txt file on that database to create the tables containing your ListMail data. This may be possible by uploading your file via PhpMyAdmin, a common database manager sometimes found in your web hosting control panel. Alternately, and you may need to use this method if your file is too large for the web upload, set up ListMail's config.php to contain the new MySQL information. Do a base install, login and go to Backup & Restore to import your *.LM file.

Post by: jgoth on December 18, 2005, 07:26:17 pm: OK, whew. I have the listmail running. I have uploaded the php dump file and renamed it leadkeep_leads.lm. Now when I run restore, I don't get any files showing to overwrite the database. It says no uploaded backup files found.

I look in my leadgen folder where all of my listmail files are, and there is the file - all 9.65 megs of it. And the extension is .lm

Any ideas? I think I am almost there!

I finally got the backup listed on the page. When I went to restore, I got an error:

Error: Path to MySQL could not be detected. Manually set the path to the MySQL binaries in config.php

So I tried putting in the manual paths in the config doc, and I got a blank screen of death. Changed the config doc back, had to reinstall.

I give up! I tried to sign up for the server analysis, went through the entire signup process, hit submit and got an error!

HELP?
