Title: Problem relaying with Qmail, please help
Post by: jeffb0 on May 10, 2004, 11:29:01 am
The mail server (Qmail) works flawlessly unless I try to send a remote test message with Listmail.  The error message reads:

-----
[Bounce Handling]
Is enabled?  Yes, Using a mailbox
Connecting.. Connected!
Verifying username and password... Verified!
The bounced message mailbox is configured correctly.

[SMTP Server]
Is enabled?  Yes
Connecting to SMTP server.. Connected!
Sending test email to remote address.. Problem setting receiver to Remote Test Address
The SMTP server is not configured correctly. Check your settings.
-----

When I set the  Remote Test Address  to a local email address, it works fine, so this leads me to believe it's a relaying issue, BUT relaying is set up already and working just fine.  Relaying is configured by allowing IP's and the only IP's allowed are 127.0.0.1 and my work box.

Do I need to allow another IP?  The SMTP server's public IP?

Hmm, do you have bounced message processing enabled?  If you do, make sure the "bounce to address" is an address on a domain hosted on your server.  If not, make sure that your Administrator Email follows the same guidelines.

Try a setting of "localhost" for your SMTP host with no additional authorization.  Often, this works fine.

I am assuming that your mail server software is on the same computer/IP as your web server as this is the most common setup.  If none of the above helps solve the problem, try allowing your external IP and see if that gets you anywhere.

Allowing the external IP as a relay worked. The TEST will not work with "localhost" as the server. I must use the full URL for some reason.
Title: Same problem here-where is "external IP" setting?

I am having the exact same problem.  Please...where do I find the "external IP" setting to change.

Thanks in advance

I've been searching Google for "qmail external ip" but haven't come up with anything :(
