Custom MySQL Delete Script?
« on: April 20, 2005, 01:08:07 pm »
Hi DW,

I really appreciate having the custom lminsert Perl script, but now what I'm wondering, how about a quick lmdelete Perl script?  I'm at a point where it would be nice if I could call a quick Perl script when deleting members from other parts of my website and also remove them from specific lists - or ALL lists in LMP...

How about it?  Can you knock one out fairly quick, it shouldn't be hard - I guess I would want to do the delete based on Email address, and also have the option of giving the list to delete from AND and option to delete from 1 list, or delete from ALL lists... all of this in a quick Perl routine...

Thanks again DW,
Thanks,
-Brett

DW,
Reading this request it reminded me that others have asked for 'global' name delete, and 'remove all' from list functions.
Perhaps you could keep all these alternatives in mind also when you take a look at adding 'Select' messages number to the User Selection.
Maybe a number of requests could be satisfied at the same time if the select rule could have other options as well as sending messages to a list, such as 'Delete' and also 'Add to other list'. As you already have 'User Selection' in place it might not take much to integrate a couple of other functions to it.
I know that MySql would probably do all this if you were familiar enough with it, but some 'tame' functions might help.
Just a thought, anyway. I always think that if someone needs something, there are going to be others that could use it as well.
(..and something more to add to your sales page...)
Regards,
Trevor.

Brett,

I'd like to be able to help you out.  It would be good experience for me to brush up on my Perl (I'm not the best with it.. :)). I will see what I can do when I'm done support for the day.  If I don't get to it, perhaps tomorrow.

Trevor,

I do plan on incorporating a feature to perform operations based on temporary or saved selections.  I expect the feature will include options to change any field, delete users, etc.  Your 'add to another list' suggestion is a new one and very good, too.

Hi Brett,

I apologize for the delay.  I've been sidetracked - automated invoice processing is on the fritz and must be redone.  I'm going to try to take care of your script over the next day or two.

Hi DW,

Great, it will be very useful, I appreciate having it  :)
or, if you're really behind and tell me the MYSQL Select statement I can probably handle it on my own..

Also, please tell me if the code would be different between 1.7 and 1.8? I'm still in the process of converting things over.
Thanks,
-Brett

No changes have been made to the lm_users table for v1.8 so user-based scripts should still work.

You'll be happy to hear I've completed LMdelete.pl! Click here for the code.
