Export Users Filter - Still Exports All Users
« on: August 14, 2005, 02:01:46 am »
Hi,

I have only recently started to use the Export and Import Users feature in LM. So I am seeing the bugs that the recent LM updates are designed to fix, including the most recent manual additions date problem.

But what I have found is that when Exporting users from one database to transfer them to another database in LM, there seems no easy way to do it.

The way I do it now is to Export the entire database to Export.csv, edit it in Excel to leave only the users I want to transfer to another database and then Import the file to the new user database.

I have tried using the Export filter to select just the users I want to export but even though you set up the rules and select the users, the export file still exports all the entire user database.

This filter works for other things I use it for, but it seems not when exporting users.

Am I doing something wrong here, that this feature does not work for me ?

Greetings,

I'm not 100% sure what you're having troubles with:

1) I tested the Export feature just now, albeit with one rule, and was able to successfully export just the Active users from a list with removed, bounced, and unconfirmed users excluded.

2) Are you trying to export a "User Selection"?  This will soon be a feature...

3) Apparently you are trying to "copy" or "move" users from one list to another.  What users are you trying to select?  Are you trying to select multiple lists?

Can you tell me the exact steps to take to recreate the problem?

Regards!

Dean Hi,

Yes I think you have it with item 2)

I am trying to select individual users from one list and just export those users to another list.

Lets say I want to transfer 3 people from one list and add them to another list. I want to be able to set up the filter, query and find the users I want then export (transfer) just those users to the new list.

All I can do now is export all users not just the ones I want.

You are right - this is a current limitation.  I will be working the User Selection feature into the Export process very soon.

If you know how, you might want to use PhpMyAdmin to export your desired users to CSV format.

Would checkboxes on the User Database page with an option to move or copy those users between lists help as well?

Dean,

Thanks for the reply.

I can make do with having to export the list to Export.csv for now, it's not that big ;-).

I just wondered why what I was trying to do did not work and as you have said, the feature is not there just yet.

Having the feature as a user selection query and/or tick boxes on the user data base page I suppose depends on what you want to do. I think you need to cover 3 options, Copy, Move and Export. Copy and Move for actions between lists and Export for actions outside the list.

Tick boxes on the user database list is OK provided that if when you have to move or copy users there is a way to find them easily on a very big list. For this the query user selection may be easier.
