Future Date as part of email (wishlist)
« on: March 29, 2006, 12:01:03 pm »
Hi DW,

I've been trying out v1.86 and noticed you added future date but its' not exactly what I had hoped for. (Don't even really understand it since isn't the autoresponder already sending future date emails?)

Anyway...

What I would like to see in future versions are 2 key things for me anyway:

(1) The ability to add a future date to the email message itself. Example: You already have the message code "!date" which displays todays date, but what would be cool is to be able to do
!date+1 for todays' date plus one more day = display tomorrows date in the message itself.

(2) Some sort of control (I know this is out of your hands) for folks using free email. My emails (due to something in listmails' header) go straight to the spam and bulk mail folder (even when its' the double confirmation email!)

Look, I read somewhere that Yahoo is going to "charge" to send commercial emails and who knows if all others are going to go this road.

They (free email companies) are so nuts now that I have a Yahoo account, and when I checked to day my "bulk" folder to see if any emails went their in error, I actually saw a message from Yahoo itself! It thought its' own email was spam! (Gosh!!!)

So, perhaps DW and fellow autoresponder users, the writing is on the wall, email may no longer be an effective way to communicate with people (for free that is).

Perhaps we should start loking into "membership" type of sites where people go online and see their email on our sites - forget about "receiving" it anymore.

Oy vey!
Jess

You should be able to do what you want with v1.86.  As with previous versions the date is calculated at sending time.  To add a day to this date simply enter "1" next to "Days" under "Offset" in the options for the code.

This is entirely up to your web server and it's reputation.  Your web host can write to abuse@yahoo.com and they will forward you a questionnaire regarding email being sent from your server.  On non-shared servers only, such as if you are using a dedicated server for JUST your company, you can be accepted for permanent exemption from the Bulk Mail folder.    A dedicated server costs about $99/mo + $30/mo for management of security and control panel updates.  Shared hosts cannot be granted exemption, but I do believe that by answering their questionnaire your host can achieve somewhat improved delivery.

I have heard rumours that clicking "This is not spam" on a number of messages from your server can improve or even eliminate delivery to the bulk mail folder (temporarily, until there are more complaints of 'this is spam').

Some more notes about delivery to free accounts can be read in this post.
