Manually Send E-Mail to Unconfirmed
« on: May 03, 2004, 06:17:44 pm »
I've already spoken to Dean about this one, but I'd like to be able to manually send out an e-mail to those users who are unconfirmed.

The e-mail would include my custom HTML and text message and would remind them to click the link to activate (since they have not activated yet). If they don't respond, I'll just blow them out of the db.

I'm using a form script now that allows me to collect private information on at a secure site for reservations. The information is written to a secure database and sends e-mail to the user and the reservation staff. The reservation staff then logs into a secure site with username/password to access the secure db with private info.

I'm very happy with the script and support I get from this company (MitriDAT - FormProcessorPro), but I'd love to be able to merge these two products somehow ... just a dream Dean.

that would be nice or have it included with the daily email cron where in the admin section you could set number of days after initial send out to send a reminder message and x days after that to delete the signup out of the db.

Sounds like a plan, Tone!  This wouldn't be all that difficult.  I'll add it to the list for possible addition to the next release.

Additionally, the upcoming rule-based sending feature will let you send to unconfirmed users.  :D

That'd be great, I would really like the automatic re-send and purging (I guess the purge wouldn't be a necessity unless the unconfirmed takes up a lot of space which I couldn't imagine that it would).

The workaround is messy.. You could export unconfirmed users and import them to a temporary list, but then their remove (or confirm) links wouldn't work..

That's why I'm looking forward to the new version.

I'm trying to avoid the cron jobs since it is a bit above my level of understanding.

Right now - I might just send them and e-mail directly and ask them to contact me directly and I can manually move them from unconfirmed to active - but that would be a pain.

Let us know when you have something!

Dean,
Just wanted to check if this was going to become possible. Right now, the unconfirmed numbers are at about 20 percent which is pretty high.

The double opt-in is great, but sometimes users miss the e-mail or maybe it gets blocked by some sort of filter so they never get on the list.

Any chance we can address this?

Thanks!
Steve

I've heard talk of this before, it would also be great for Bounced emails, I've got a list of 1,000's.

I'm sure some type of custom script could be worked on that would run via CRON, and load up the LMP queue to attempt to send a message to these users... but, it seems DW has a lot of other things he's working on at this point, so have to see...
Thanks,

What about using User Selection?  You can now choose Unconfirmed or Bounced users and send to them manually.

An automated reminder for unconfirmed users would be a great addition.

I've been thinking of an email 'verification' routine that could be run periodically - this could easily be extended to also re-check bounced users.

Hi DW,

Quote
Unconfirmed or Bounced users and send to them manually.

This won't work for me as I have literally 10,000-20,000 or more bounced users, I need something that will hit 1,000-2,000 at a time every night, for example...

This is a better option, thanks, please include it, it would help tremendously, include an option if possible - something like:

"Resend to [xxxxxx] Bounced Users every [xx] days" (xxxxxx is selection box, where you can enter a number, or pull-down for selecting even number 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000, etc..., xx is for selecting how many days between attempting re-sends - not sure how you can handle that... as you will have to keep track of last SEND time in the bounced records.

NOW - one thing to think about, then would you provide a way to extend the BOUNCE count on those users, for example I dump all of my Bounced users into a separte Bounced table (lm_bounced) since I have so many - I'd like to see that as an option on the maintenance page - MOVED Bounced Users to Bounced table, when you click the button it MOVES them over there - and perhaps resets the bounce count back to ZERO on those users and clears out the bounced date field - then when the RESEND starts using the Resend option the bounce count increases again from 0 to however many you've set your bounce count at - for example mine is 4 times in 40 days, so you can still use that same configuration and if the bounced users bounce 4 more times for me when trying the re-send you DELETE them permanently -

Now, here's the other question - what happens to those that do NOT bounce, perhaps you have a link in the email - when they click on it, it REINSTATES (reactivates or sets Active) their email address back in the normal lists that they are in for LMP?  Does that make sense?
Thanks,
-Brett

Hi Brett,
Do you mean another special message under 'list settings', something like the 'confirmation email' with a confirmation link that sets user active but leaves them back with the mail that bounced ready to be sent again next?

Yes, something like that, where we could setup another message - saying something like:

Code: [Select]

Your account has been removed because it could not be delivered to this email address, if you would like to re-activate your account, please click the link below otherwise you will be permanently removed from our mailings.

If you believe there is an error in this message please reply and let us know why you believe that your account should not have been de-activated.

Thank you,
Account Manager...

That should do it, then what happens is this email gets sent out according to the schedule setup under the new 'Bounce re-send' parameters.

I believe it would help try to re-instate those users who may have bounced due to over quota accounts, or for other unknown reasons?
Thanks,
-Brett
