[Bug] Upgrade Problem - "Unknown Column"
« on: December 23, 2006, 08:14:50 pm »
I just tried an upgrade from 1.84 to 1.87d.

I overwrote the old files with the new ones and went to my /listmail folder in the browser.  It displayed this error message after about 15 seconds while running 'editlists.php':

List 1 Settings:
Unknown column 'remsubj' in 'field list'

Any suggestions on what the problem could be?
I'm able to log into phpMyAdmin but don't know what table to look
in for the errant column.

Charles :)

Please browse to the ListMail "Login" page where you should see a "Database updated" message.  This should fix the problem.  If you continue to have troubles please submit a bug report for an investigation.

[Bug] Upgrade Problem - "Unknown Column"

Is there any other way to resolve this issue. I too am upgrading from 1.87 to 1.87d and get the message:

Unknown column 'remsubj' in 'field list'

and it hangs on editlists.php

I am not able to navigate to the login screen at all - can't get past the error message above.
It was all working fine before uploading all the new files except for config.php and the cgi scripts.

Thanks - Garnet

You must be able to get back to the login page so the database update can take effect (I really need to make this easier/automated!).  If browsing to the ListMail base URL, (http://example.com/mail) doesn't work, try logging out by browsing to http://example.com/mail/login.php?logout=1 and then try the base URL again.  You should see a database update message (if not, try a Refresh) and be all good from there.

Please let me know if you require further assistance.  You could submit your info for a bug investigation.

I had the same problem - I am pretty sure it was caused because I never logged out before I upgraded.

You should add one more point to the upgrade instructions:
# Download one of the available distributions above.
# Backup your ListMail database!
# LOG OUT OF LISTMAIL <-- NEW!!
# Using FTP, replace your main ListMail folder files with the ones from the latest ZIP from the members area. CGI scripts and config.php can be left as is.
# Browse to the ListMail login page and allow the database update to take effect (do not hit Refresh or Stop) If you do not see an upgrade message try refreshing the page.
# When the database upgrade process is complete you may proceed to login or close your browser.

I usually mention to "relogin" to ListMail, ie:

To upgrade, simply overwrite the files in your main ListMail folder with the new ones. You do not need to replace the CGI scripts or config.php. Once the files are uploaded, (re)login to ListMail for database changes to take effect.

Sorry about the confusion... I should really perform an automated check for this.  If a database upgrade is needed ListMail could destroy the cookie (logout) and run the update.
