I attended a seminar of email marketing experts this week. One piece of information I picked up is that spam blockers are now stopping messages that have a different domain name than the one listed in the email. LM's link tracking feature does this.

For example !link001 = mydomain.com/mail/blah.php?link001 in the body of an HTML email. The hyperlink appears as www.clientwebsite.com.

Presumably this is in order to block the Phishers. Makes the use of link tracking a problem however.

Maybe someone can come up with a smart workaround for this? Link opening and other tracking stats are certainly valued.

Can you find any documentation on this restriction? I'd like to know how widespread it is and do some research about minimizing the damage to ListMailPRO users.

Off-hand, I can't think of a way to get around this very restrictive setting... possibly why they did it this way.

I don't see this catching on as it could kill e-zine advertising...

Note, the problem really only exists if you print a URL in the email, and the hyperlink in the HTML is different. For example if you put "visit <link>my website</link>" instead of <link>www.mywebsite.com</link> and put the tracking URL on the link as you would normally the problem goes away.

I think you just have to be creative on this.

The information was only anecdotal. If you search SpamAssassin's list of spam flags it might reveal more info.
