Wsing Bounce With "Out of Office" Replies
« on: October 09, 2005, 09:16:08 am »
I currently have a mail list of about 11,000 addresses. It is currently maintained manually. Listmail is only used to send.

I would like to start using bounce since I currently get about 1,000 bounces whenever I send an email. Have nevered bothered to delete bounces from list (too much work to do manually) in the past becuase it was too much work to do it manually.

I'd like to start using "bounce" but have concern/question. In addition to about 1,000 real bounces, i get about 600 "Out of Office" replies, and about 100 "mailbox full" responses.

I do not see how bounce can distinguish between these three types of "bounces" only one type of which I want to actually remove from mailing list.

Is there a way? A work around? I can't think of one. Just to keep things interesting, the "bounces" messages occur in about 10 different languages (I send to people in all countries of the EU).

If anyone knows of a way to make this work please let me know. I can't imagine i'm the only one who has this problem.

Thanks in advance. Really like the software.

Out of office replies are, from what I've seen, sent to the "From:" address (used for replies), not the bounce address.  You should receive these emails at your "Send From Email" set up for your list.

I base my reply on my own experience.  When I send updates to my ListMail clients I get about 10 out of office replies every time.

Ah ha! I currently have my "from" and "reply to" address set as the same address. Changing this is abvously very easy.

I'll give that a try. If things works as you say, then my problems will be solved. My experience should probably be the same as yours since, although the emails are in many different languages, the software that handles them is probably pretty similiar.

Many thanks. I hope this works. Keep up the good work. Love your software, i keep telling everyone about it.

ListMail doesn't currently have a "Reply-to" address feature.  I don't feel it's necessary because the "Send From Email" is always used for replies automatically - it also very rarely has any strict authorization on it.

I assume you're talking about your "Bounce To" and "Send From" emails being the same. :)

Thanks for your kind comments and for recommending ListMail!
