Bounce Mails

Hello Dean

First of all I would like to say how wonderful the listmail pro really is. I have now had time to test it out before putting it to serious use.

I noticed that there is one problem though. I am not too technical and I have seeked in this forum for a solution to my problem but couldn't quite find what I was looking for, so I will need to open a new thread.

I have played around with it, importing 10,000 and 20,000 users and done mailings with all of the custom fields allows me. They are very useful. The first mailing I made was the 20,000 mails..... NO problems, it took about 1 hour and 15 minutes, so that's not too bad.

What took me longer though was deleting all the bounce mails that made my inbox look like a hurricane.

So after this traumatic experience I decided to configure the bounce.cgi and did a test mail. I set up the last option in the main Bounced Message Handling fields and my test mail worked fine.

I imported another 10,000 users from my other lists and did a mailing. All mails went out, no problems. Then I waited for a couple of hours before trying out the Daily Mail rutine. I wanted to receive the Unsubscribe mails to my inbox and then wanted to use the Daily Mail rutine to clean out tha database for bouncing mails.

It all start pretty good but after about 10 minutes it chokes and I get this message. As I said I am not a technical programmer, so I haven't the slightes clue on what to do. (I am more of a design wiz).

The error I get is:

I have tried looking in dailymail.php around line 202 but cannot see anywhere where it says anything about a transfer limit.

I am now afraid that I am sitting with a full mailbox which I really don't want to download to my inbox like the first time.

Hi again Dean

Well, I finally got rid of the bouncers. It did seem to handle some of the bouncers even though I repeatedly got the above mentioned ERROR. I did download around a 1,000 mails to my inbox but I could see User Database in the admin area was declining ans slowed down around 7900.

As I said, I repeatedly got the above ERROR when trying to run Daily Mail but all of a sudden I got a message saying that the Daily Mail had handled 1200 bonuces. So obvoiusly I am still confused, does it have anything to do with how many mails are on my mail server or is it just the 'exausted time out' within the dailymail.php script ??

If I run the daily mail very 10 minutes now, it very quickly handles 5 or 10 bouncers. How can I extend the handling time for the Daily Mail function without the 200 line error ?

You will need to ask your host to increase the PHP memory limit for your server and/or site to 16MB from 8MB.

The bounce.cgi script is much more suitable and highly recommended for large amounts of bounces as email boxes can become very slow with several thousand messages.  Is it possible for you to set it up at your host?

Fine, I will see what I can do to get my ISP to extend the php memory. And as you say, I can now see that the bounce.cgi would perhaps be a better choice. I'll see if I can configure it correctly along with setting up the .procmailrc file.
