can't attach attachments
« on: May 03, 2005, 03:10:57 pm »
The first email I sent with attachments worked fine. Then the next time, I was not able to attach the attachments, although I was following the directions to the letter, but, I could manually type in the name of the file in the text box where the file attachment is supposed to show up, and the attachment was sent. The third time, nothing worked, I manually typed in the name of the file, and it was not sent in spite of the fact that the email said

This is a multipart message in MIME format.

at the top.

The other problem I am having is that on the page you get to when the emails are sending says:
Sending to server:  0 of 299
in spite of the fact the email was sent to everyone. This worked properly the first time I sent an email to the list.
And also, all email to AOL customers have started bouncing, although this did not happen the first time.
Thank you for your help.
Nan

I wonder what browser you are using.  There is a known issue with FireFox not updating the form correctly when you hit the "Set Attachments" button.  Typing in the filename should resolve the issue.  I wonder if you, perhaps, entered an extra space or other character into the filename when you experienced the failure the third time - ListMail should have picked up the attachment if it existed with the correct name.

There is also an issue with FireFox not updating your sending counters properly.  It is recommended that you use Internet Explorer until these issues are resolved.

AOL can temporarily block your server if too many messages are sent to it in a certain period of time.  Certain URLs in your messages can also be blocked depending on subscriber complaints.  To be sure what is happening, you can enable "notify when a user is removed for bouncing" for your list.  At the bottom of these notifications is the content of the message sent back by the bouncing server, which should give a reason for the bounce.

Thanks for the help, I have switched from IE to Firefox because it is so much better than IE. Do you have an expected date for the fix for being able to attach a file when using Forefox?
Thanks

Can I just add a couple of points to this discussion.

First I was really thrown when I did a test preview and no attachment was on the email. I set up a "testbed" mail group to myself and I found that the mail had attached the attachment and everything was fine. So the attachments work but not with the preview. :D
