NO email getting to Yahoo????
« on: July 13, 2006, 07:33:52 am »
Hi,

I've bee emailing for years with LMP and no problems, in the last few days I find what appears to be that NO EMAIL is being delivered to Yahoo!

Can anyone explain this???

I have a test list setup with 3 addresses on it, one of them is my personal Yahoo email address, I sent email to that address yesterday, and today and it does NOT appear anywhere - not even in the Bulk Mail folder!

I did a mailing yesterday to 30,000 subscribers with Link Tracking on - only 33 clicked - that's almost IMPOSSIBLE - what I believe is happening is that NO email is getting through to Yahoo, AOL, or HotMail that would restrict the number of users to 1/5th or 1/4th, at most 1/3rd probably...

Just so you know, I also checked Blacklists, these are the ones I checked:
MAPS RBL
MAPS DUL
MAPS RSS
ORDB
ORBZ
ORBL
dorkslayers
/dev/null
Osirusoft
Local Black Holes (50 of them)
uceb.org SPAM blacklist
blackholes.us
JIPPG's Relay Blackhole List Project
The Abusive Hosts Blocking List
NJABL.ORG
SORBS
no-more-funn
RRBL
Spamhaus SBL
Leadmon.Net's SpamGuard Listings
Spamhaus XBL
SpamCop

I had this returned:
Code: [Select]
The IP address (xx.xxx.xxx.xx) was NOT FOUND in any blacklists searched.

Does anyone have any ideas what would cause this - this will seriously put me out of business if I cannot figure out what is going on!

Any suggestions, comments, ideas please?

UPDATE FROM HOST
--------------------------------
Here's an updated, after trying to re-send 3-4 times and nothing going through I contacted host support, during the chat here is what the support engineer reported

Peter : ok i have reset the mail server
Peter : try again in 20 mins
Brett : ok - thank you, what would cause the problem? Would that restrict the email I sent to only certain people? For example a ttest email to my standard email address at my domain is delivered... only Yahoo not delivered?
Peter : could be an mx issue
Peter : but reset should take care of it

--------------------------------

I then did several more test emails - but without waiting 20 minutes, those were not delivered, finally after about 20 minutes, I JUST HAD ONE GO THROUGH!  It seems this is directly related to an MX issue on the host - does anyone know what/why this problem is created - and HOW to check for it occurring again and what to do to prevent it?

It is NOT going to be good that this could happen at any time and NO email to Yahoo gets delivered!

----
DW, is there ANY WAY that this could be caused by the new delay you put in?  I have NOT upgraded yet, so I'm using the same delay code I always used, but for some reason I'm not getting email through to Yahoo in the last two days...
----

Any thoughts/comments/suggestions/ideas?
Thanks,
-Brett

Are you on a shared server?  It's possible your host has been/is sending a large amount of email to Yahoo and messages are being delayed.  On some of my servers I notice Yahoo saying "server busy, try again later" from time to time.  This shouldn't be a problem, though.. your mail system should automatically retry at an incrementing delay and deliver the email up to ~3 days later, but usually much sooner.

I don't have a lot of confidence in your host's reply.  It seems they are guessing and aren't really looking into the issue...  DNS/MX errors are quite rare.  He should be able to confirm that messages are actually being accepted by Yahoo's mail server by looking at the server logs.  He would do a "grep" for yahoo.com
Code: [Select]
cat /var/log/maillog | grep yahoo.com
...and should see stuff like:
Quote
Jul 13 13:05:34 s3 qmail: 1152810334.142957 delivery 40574: deferral: 67.28.113.70_failed_after_I_sent_the_message./Remote_host_said:_451_mta119.mail.re4.yahoo.com_Resources_temporarily_unavailable._Please_try_again_later.__[#4.16.4:70]./
Jul 13 13:12:27 s3 qmail: 1152810747.323564 delivery 40588: failure: 202.43.219.49_failed_after_I_sent_the_message./Remote_host_said:_554_delivery_error:_dd_This_user_doesn't_have_a_yahoo.co.in_account_(example@yahoo.co.in)_[0]_-_mta127.mail.in.yahoo.com/

Success messages might need to be traced via the message ID, ie. (qmail)
Quote
Jul 13 13:13:19 s3 qmail: 1152810799.647884 starting delivery 40591: msg 82377 to remote example123@yahoo.com

Then
Code: [Select]
cat /var/log/maillog | grep 40591
Quote
Jul 13 13:13:20 s3 qmail: 1152810800.519575 delivery 40591: success: 4.79.181.14_accepted_message./Remote_host_said:_250_ok_dirdel/

Talk to your host - they should be able to offer some proof of delivery or not.
