Bouncing User Removed
« on: March 11, 2006, 04:47:46 am »
Hi there,

I've been getting repeat "Bouncing User Removed" after I mail messages out to people who have subscribed to the mailing list.

The usual message displayed: unrouteable mail domain "hotmail.com" (or whatever email service they use, usually yahoo or hotmal but never aol so far).

Don't know why this is happening.

Is there a limit to the number of followup emails I have sent out (which really hasn't amounted to more than 100 since the begging of "time".

Please give me any ideas or suggestions.

Thanks.

Tony.

This is probably happening because your mail servers connection is being completely blocked by hotmail or yahoo.

From what I know HotMail allows a maximum of 500 connections to its servers per IP.  HotMail is somewhat difficult to contact, you (or, better, your web host) need to find a contact email from http://postmaster.hotmail.com and email them.  They should respond with a questionnaire about the server.  After replying to their satisfaction, and if your server isn't sending WAY too much email, you should have fewer or no delivery problems.

It's also possible your host is having some temporary DNS troubles and cannot 'reach' the HotMail servers.

Yahoo has a similar questionnaire for non-shared servers to be exempted from the Bulk Mail folder.  With AOL you can either phone their postmaster hotline to instantly remove a block on a server or URL and/or apply for a "Feedback Loop" which will tell you which users are complaining against your messages so you can remove them.  An automated script to remove AOL complainers is available here.

Do you (or anyone else?) have the URL for yahoo's similar feature?

If I recall correctly simply send an email to abuse@yahoo.com asking about bulk-mail folder exemption and they will reply with the questionnaire.

Hi Mike and Dan,

Thanks for your replies, folks.

I've done a little test by sending single emails to my own yahoo and hotmail accounts. Surprisingly, the emails managed to get through to both my email accounts.

Will give Dan's suggestions a try if I continue to get these bounced messages.

Thanks again.

Cheers
