cron problem with wget
« on: November 26, 2004, 09:16:02 am »
Hi Dean,

I received the following message from my hosting company when I queried why cron tab might not be working:

<!-- SNIP -->
I'm sorry but wget has been disabled due to abuse. You would have to find another method to trigger your script. You should be able to run your php script from cron. Or write a perl script with the same net affect. Sorry for any inconvenience this has imposed.

Any ideas?

Your host could compile or copy wget to your home directory so only you can use it.

There are a couple alternatives.  Try searching the forum for "curl" which is similar to wget.
