Dailymail is causing us problems
« on: July 06, 2006, 02:08:47 am »
Dear Dean,

I am a new user of ListMailPro in the UK and I have been working enthusiastically on your program for a couple of weeks with my web designer, as the setup of ListMailPro is beyond my personal skill level.

We are making reasonably good progress at using ListMailPro.  We have designed a new landing page for users to request free information.  We have set up the confirmation response so that the first instalment of our free guide goes out on sign up.  We then have 5 follow ups to go out over a 2 week period.  The preview function works perfectly on all 6 instalments.  We have been running live for about a week and about 30 users have already signed up.

We are stuck, though, on Dailymail.  Dailymail has not been running automatically and we think the problem is probably with our web host.  Yesterday we worked out how to run Dailymail manually through the Dailymail function and a backlog of outstanding mailings were sent out.

My web designer wonders whether there are special setup instructions for Windows 2003 servers.  We cannot find any clues on your Forum.

Please can you help us get to the bottom of this?  We have read your instructions carefully but we are confused and we are both finding this area a little difficult.

Best wishes.

Charles.

Hi Charles,

Unfortunately Windows servers do not support "cron jobs" which are essentially "scheduled tasks for Linux".

What you will need to do is use a Windows scheduled task and install the Windows "wget" utility as noted at http://listmailpro.com/help/dailymail_local.html

Dear Dean,

Thanks for this reply.

Despite looking, we had completely missed the Windows /no Cron message in your Help section.  We'll send this pearl of wisdom to our web host immediately.

Hopefully we'll get smarter /more experienced soon!

Have a good weekend.

Best wishes.

Charles.
