ListMailPro for Dummy?
« on: April 29, 2005, 10:46:32 pm »
I just recently purchased this program for my company and have found myself already in over my head.    Now, I am at an intermediate level when it comes to understanding computer jargon and basic running of programs, and I was lured by the promises of easy installation and upgrades.  But now, I feel like I need a degree in computer science to know how to even get this thing started!  Is there anyone out there who knows how to explain this process of installation to a lay-person?

First, I am running this on a MAC, so apparantly this is ok as long as I have MySQL.  How do I find out if I have this?  If I don't, can I get it?

Secondly, what is a PHP? Right now, this is as far as I can get in the installation instructions before my head explodes.

Please help!

Greetings,

Sorry to hear about your frustration.

ListMail was designed to be run on commercial web hosting, which is generally Linux based, but can also be Windows and, I suppose, Mac (though I don't hear about many).

ListMail should run on any system utilizing PHP (programming language, or "script", for web sites) and MySQL (database engine that stores data in databases with tables and fields) with their Web Server software.  An SMTP server should also be running.  These services are very commonly already set up on commercial web hosts.

ListMail runs on your host and sends email from your domain name.  Do you have a domain name and/or a web server hosting web pages to the internet?
