Advise - which way to go
« on: October 28, 2004, 12:32:26 pm »
Installed, configured, and thought I was ready to go, but no features are functions right now, I am getting error messages when trying to send emails manually, databases are working fine ( I am able to store subscribers and emails and son on) but that is it. I called my hosting service which was using linux servers but now are apparently using windows servers  (thanks for telling me, lol). Should I start over from scratch, or use tech support to to fix the bugs or do a full installation?

It sounds like you are having trouble authenticating with SMTP for sending.

On some servers you do not need to authorize (AUTH option) with a valid username and password.  You may simply need to enter your mail server, ie: "localhost", or "mail.yoursite.com". with no additional authorization.

Alternately, you may need to set up an email account to authorize with.

Under Windows, you'll also need a mailbox set up for bounces, ie bounce@yoursite.com and enter the login information into LIstMail.

Hitting the "Test Mail Settings" button should show success authenticating your usernames and passwords.

I changed those settings and the test work fine I rec'd an email from the test, now when i send the bulk email I recive this error message ----

Connecting to SMTP server...
Warning: fsockopen(): unable to connect to localhost:25 in E:\Inetpub\Virtuals\ncsteps.org\Web\mail\admin.php on line 765
could not open socket with fsockopen()

I looked at the "admin.php" file and that looks correct as far as I can see.
