Called Domail with no messages in queue, aborting
« on: May 18, 2004, 10:52:46 am »
I hit a new problem today. I have multiple lists, ranging from 300 users to over 15,000 on one list.  I sent out a Send Mail blast today.  On all lists save the bi one, it worked fine.  However, on the large list, as soon as I clicked Send, it came back with:

Connecting to SMTP Server - Connected!

Sending Mail 0 of 0 ...
Called domail with no messages in queue, aborting

Finished Sending!

I tried this multiple times, both using SMTP and PHP.  Both methods work for the smaller lists; I just cannot get my large list working.  Any ideas?

*** Follow up at 14:33PM Eastern ****

Decided to upgrade to latest version.  Backed up old version then got cold feet, so restored it. Tried Send Mail again and it is working fine.  I am stumped, and I will upgrade, but this was just weird.

Not too sure what happened here.  It seems there was a problem inserting your messages into the send queue.  It's possible that you ran out of disk space, or the server was temporarily unavailable.

Thanks - but I am concerned over overall performance

Thanks Dean - that may have been the case .. yet smaller lists went out fine (would this be the case?).

However, I spent all afternoon and evening hitting "Click Here" after every 200 to 300 emails to get my full 15,000 out.  As you can guess, this is not a pleasant experience, and I am concerned, because this is the second time I have had to do this in the last 6 weeks.  Any ideas?

It's really difficult to judge what's happening here.  If timeouts only happen occasionally there isn't much I can say other than your host is unstable.  That, or your server admin could be restarting the SMTP server (maybe due to email being slow because of all of your messages being in queue and the server not being optimized for lots of email) If it's happening all the time, however, I would say that your host quite possibly has a hard-coded (default 30 second) timeout on scripts that can run.
