Author Topic: Slow sending due to AOL addresses (Read 3250 times)

Dean,
I have sent some test emails, and they are not going through today.
When I click send, the below message comes up. (Yesterday they were going thru fine)

Connecting to SMTP server... Connected!

If your mailing stops for any reason, close the window or . Do NOT Refresh!

After 3-4 minutes the next message:

Connecting to SMTP server... Connected!

If your mailing stops for any reason, close the window or . Do NOT Refresh!
Sending Mail 0 of 5..

After another minute or so the following:

Connecting to SMTP server... Connected!

If your mailing stops for any reason, close the window or . Do NOT Refresh!

Sending Mail 5 of 5..

Finished sending!

But no message is received

What do you suggest?

Have you since received these test messages? It's possible that another user on the server was sending a very large amount of email at the time you initiated your mailing. If this is the case, and the server isn't optimized for very large amounts of email, a bottleneck could ensue that causes significant delivery delays of your messages. Perhaps when you try again later it will be fast again. :?

I am able to send a few test mails this morning, however
when I include an AOL address, no mail at all can be sent.

I have included the AOL address and excluded it.
Mail goes thru if I exclude the AOL address.

Also the YAHOO address can not be received.

What do you suggest?

Brad,

Are you receiving messages at any "remote" addresses? (ones not on your server) If not, there could be a problem with SMTP authentication.

Dean,

I can receive a message via AOL, but I can not send to an
AOL address for some reason. And it blocks me from sending
to anyone on that user list if an AOL address is included.

Please help!

This is very strange. Try sending to an AOL or Yahoo account from your web host but using Outlook Express. Perhaps you will receive a bounce or other server response. Perhaps your server has been "blacklisted" by these ISPs and they are "tying up" your SMTP server.. This should only be temporary, however.. your messages to other ISPs should get through eventually.
