Follow Ups not sending
« on: December 10, 2007, 05:22:30 am »
I have set up follow ups to lists but none have been sent. Users get added ok but remain at 1 in sequence and no follow up mail has been sent. I am able to manually mail users however. It looks like dailymail is not sending but I have no idea why not.
Can anyone help?

Hi Jamie,

Did you schedule the dailymail cron task as per the help page?  If it is still not running as expected you may want to contact your web host, letting them know the task you want (or have already set up) so they can look at it directly.

I found out what the problem is, my hosting company won't let me run the wget command to run the daily mail. Is there a way around this. I could change webhosts but finding another one and setting it up so everything works again may be lots of hassle ? (never done this before) or as an alternative could i run the command from my windows server at work?

Hi Jamie,

While there may be alternatives available on your server, such as curl, fetch or lynx (see this post) if your host has specifically denied this type of cron task I can't recommend trying them.  If you host another web site at another web host you could schedule the task there. You could also schedule the task on a windows computer with a dedicated connection as per this help page.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance!

I contacted my host and they said that they had disabled WGET for security reasons.  contacted them the next day and asked them what other options i could use (eg fetch) and they said not to change anything and that the WGET cron task would now work, which it didn't. Then after contacting them again they changed it to GET which also doesn't work.
Any ideas?

Jamie,

Your host should be able to check to make sure the permissions are correct for wget, GET or any other utility they allow you to use.  If you continue having troubles they should be able and willing to assist with making your task correctly load the dailymail URL.
