running 2 listmail domains on one server
« on: June 05, 2004, 10:26:28 pm »
I have two domains; domain1 and domain2. Can I run Listmail on domain2, but config it to use the mail server, email address, etc. for domain1? So the Listmail script is sitting on the domain2 site, but the emails and smtp is working for domain1. By the way, both domains are on the same server with the same ip address.

Just to be clear about my objective with this setup described above: I simply want to keep all scripts off domain 1. Domain 2 is only for the purpose of managing scripts for damain 1. I am doing some cgi script testing and when things go sour, I do not want it to bring down the domain 1. Listmail is working fine, but I want to run it on domain 2 with several other scripts to see if they all get along, but I need to confign listmail to be working for domain 1. Domain 2 is nothing more than a test bed. Later, listmail will be moved back over to domain 1.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Charlie

If both domains are on the same server you should have very few troubles.  Your host may work with a setting of "localhost" as the SMTP server with no authorization required whatsoever.  If this is the case, you shouldn't have a problem using either domain, or combination of domains, for the "bounce to address" and "send from email" addresses.
