SMTP Server - "could not say EHLO" Problem
« on: February 27, 2007, 01:03:38 pm »
Hello Forum Members,

I am having problems with Listmailpro sending messages.  When I do a test of my configuration settings, I receive the following message:

Testing mail servers..

[Bounce Handling]
Is enabled? No (you should probably configure it)

[SMTP Server]
Is enabled? Yes
Connecting to SMTP server.. Connected!
Could not say EHLO.

The SMTP server is not configured correctly. Check your settings.

It doesn't work with the Cron job I set up or attempts to send out an e-mail "now" (manually) to the database list of two addresses.  The host is named, "BlueHost".  This host has suggested changing the port number from 25 to 26 and to be sure authentication was active.  This was tried, but to no avail, the problem persists.

I was wondering from reading elsewhere in the forum if this might be a timing issue during the DNS lookup of SMTP send mail operation.  I'm not familiar with using mail servers or even where to obtain an error report for more details.  Has someone else had this same problem before?  Is someone else on this forum using the same host and listmailpro successfully?  If so, what is the solution to getting this to work?

I have set up listmailpro at Thirdsphere multiple times with no problems, but with this different host provider it has been difficult.

Thank you,
Larry

Hi Larry,

I would like to avoid forum-tag and investigate directly - would you mind submitting your info so I can take a hands-on look?
