Can I attach a bigger database???
« on: September 17, 2004, 02:54:45 am »
I need to be able to attach a bigger database back end to allow me to gradually accumulate more information about each person, and to have a facility for collecting that information in small segements by way of supplementary questionaires.

Most of mine start off with first name and email address.

I would like to be able to add (over time) surname, business name, phone, market sectors they are involved in (around 10), qualifications they have, address, postcode, whether they are interested in hearing about jobs and in what area.

This info would be gradually accumulated over weeks, months and years as they wanted info on different topics.

It would be searchable, and would enable me to get an enquiry about a product and post out information if the address filed was complete, and to put up a supplementary questionnaire to get it if not.

5 minutes work for a man of Deans talents!!!!

Any suggestions??

Right now, I'm using the custom fields that Dean already has in ListMail Pro. I'm using it for full contact information including address, town, city, state, zipcode, phone, fax, business name, contact name and such.

So depending on how many custom fields you may need in the future, you might be all set with the current solution.

Steve(s) :),

It sounds like you would do best with an "external" custom script that syncs up with the user's ID in the ListMail database.  You could insert links in your email containing the user's ID with a message code:

http://yoursite.com/survey1.php?id=!uid

Then, your script could offer extensive forms, store any amount of data, and allow you to search and produce stats from it.

I don't see this being a very quick job- it would probably take a few hours.
