3. Determine your server's method and set up "email ali
« on: March 24, 2006, 06:17:08 pm »
I am finally getting around to setting up my "bounce.cgi".

I got the cgi modified, uploaded and CHMOD to 755

No email arrives at my "administrator email address" when I click "test email settings".

I will not be using the signup**.cgi scripts.

However, I don't understand the following instruction:

3. Determine your server's method and set up "email aliases" for each of your desired address to script redirections.

What do you mean "server's method", for what? What are the possiblities?
I have lots of "email aliases". How am I supposed to relate them to bounce.cgi?
What is it that "your desired address to script redirections" referrs to?

And, if knew these things what am I supposed to do with them.

Thanks

Larry

Larry,

The method employed might be referred to as an email "alias", "pipe", or "forwarder".  Basically, we aim to redirect all email to a given address to a CGI script.  The process can vary greatly across servers and may or may not be possible to do from within your host's control panel, depending on functionality and restrictions.

If your server runs cPanel it should be as easy as noted in the help.  If not, your best bet is probably to talk to your host about the availability of this feature on your server and the exact method of using it to redirect email to a CGI script.  Once you have the method you can proceed to upload the CGI script and point an email address to it.
