Welcolme Signup Message Blank
« on: July 02, 2006, 10:59:31 pm »
Hi

After first installing ListMailPro with one list eventually everything seemed to be working fine.

Now I have 6 lists with subscriber databases on two of them.

I am not entirely sure at what point this happened but now when a new user subscribes to either of these lists, although their data is added to the respective list and followup emails sent out, the confirmation signup email that they receive is completely blank.

I have upgraded to v186b but this has made no difference.

Any ideas?

Chris

Hi Chris,

Is it possible you have an invisible character such as a space or a line break in the HTML section of the message?  This might cause what you describe.

Hi Dean

I can see no space or a line breaks in the HTML section of the Welcome message.

I have deleted and re-typed the subject and text message several times with no spaces or carriage returns but still get a blank message.

I have tried removing all the the 7 lists but still no joy.

Would it be simpler just to remove the whole program and start again or do you have any more ideas?

Regards Chris

I'd like to be able to explain this - if you like, please submit your information for a bug investigation.

Hi Dean

The 'submit your information for a bug investigation' link did not seem to be working at the time when I accessed it.

I have tried sending emails on the 'Send an Email' tab but they all come out blank. This seems to happen whether the user profile is set to 'Text and HTML' or just 'Text Only' and on any list.

Any further thoughts?

This appears to be due to a known (but unfixed) bug which causes errors when there are no message codes to process.

I noticed you have absolutely NO message codes showing up in ListMail - do you have any idea how this happened? Did you remove them all?

I have seen similar symptoms a couple of times over the years... Did you recently delete or rename lists... ? I guess there is a bug in that process.

I have re-entered the 10 default global codes and your messages should now come through as expected. As long as you have at least one global code the problem should not re-occur.

Hi Dean

Many thanks for this, my ListMail is now sending emails OK and firing no blanks.

I did re-name some of the lists and probably this is when the problem of the blank emails started. I also tried to remove all the lists but the problem was already present by this stage but I had not realised that the global codes had gone missing.

Currently I now get this message on the welcome signup.php...

DEBUG: list(xsubj,xmsg,xhtmsg)=processmsg((userid=)50,(subj=)Welcome!,(msg=)Welcome to the mailing list!,(htmsg=),'0',(typ=)3,(list=)2);
DEBUG: (PROCESSED) subj=Welcome!,msg=Welcome to the mailing list!,htmsg=
Thanks for signing up, chris.
Your email address myemail@-------.--- will be kept safe!

You will receive an introductory email in a moment.

On the sent email sent it reads...

Welcome!

Welcome to the mailing list!

Is there any way to remove the script below from appearing on the HTML signup.php?

DEBUG: list(xsubj,xmsg,xhtmsg)=processmsg((userid=)50,(subj=)Welcome!,(msg=)Welcome to the mailing list!,(htmsg=),'0',(typ=)3,(list=)2);
DEBUG: (PROCESSED) subj=Welcome!,msg=Welcome to the mailing list!,htmsg=

I presume that re-naming or removing lists is not an advisable thing to do in future until the bug is fixed?

My apologies... I must have left my testing files up. Despite the much-undesired output everything should have continued to work fine.   All that needed to be done was re-upload the v1.86b files.  I have done this for you now.
