list mail not sending error, and wacky characters
« on: July 30, 2007, 11:32:33 pm »
I've searched for over an hour on this forum to find an
answer but I can't find one so if this is already answered
I apologize.

Here's the problem:

when I go to "send mail", put in my message, and click
send I get this:

Internet Explorer cannot read this webpage format  HTTP 406
What you can try:  Go back to the previous page.   More
information

This error (HTTP 406 Not Acceptable) means that Internet
Explorer was able to receive information from the website
you visited, but the information was not in a format that
Internet Explorer can display.

For more information about HTTP errors, see Help.  I
haven't changed anything to my listmail and in fact, have
been using it quite frequently for going on almost two years
now? I always have DW install the upgrades for me, and have
never had any problems until today.

The only think I can think is maybe it's because I'm
trying to send it out at 1-2 am in the morning (as a test).
Is it because my cron jobs are going haywire on ym server at
this time? Could that be the problem?

Okay, I'll stop guessing.

Second problem:

I looked long and hard for an answer to this problem of
mine, that's not too big of one, but it's a really
annoying bug that I can't seem to work around.

When I type my messages using word, notepad, dreamweaver,
outlook -- anything... then cut and paste my message into
the "text" body and hit "test mail" it'll come back
like this.. well let me show you by writing a simple line,
then what it sends to me in the body of the e-mail:

CUT AND PASTE:

It's Nathan here and I just wanted to let you know... If
you haven't signed up yet for our upcomming seminar...

TEST MAIL RESULTS

It?s Nathan here and I just wanted to let you know? If you
haven?t signed up yet for our upcomming seminar?

Then, I have to go back through every single e-mail I send
to my list in the test box and manually delete and re-type
all the ' or ... or -- characters in order for it to
display properly.

I can't seem to work around this. Maybe it's because I
format my e-mails using this free online tool? What do you
think? Is there a better one out there?

I love ListMailPro by the way. It's responsible for earning
me a fortune with every click on "send."

Thanks guys,
Nathan Blaszak

For your first problem, I'm not sure whats up with it...  I highly doubt it has anything to do with cron jobs running, etc.

As for formatting, I simply use MS Word, set my margin to 5 inches and use Lucida Console on 10 font size.

Oh and after typing my letter, I goto the end of each line and put a manual line break in there.

This always seems to give me a nice format without any trouble.

Hi Nathan,

If this problem is persisting I recommend deleting and reuploading the domail.php file.  If that doesn't help you may need to contact your host so they can look more closely at the system error_log.

I suspect the problem may go away on it's own.

I wouldn't say anything is going haywire, per se, but the host could be running a backup process or other maintenance which probably shouldn't be causing such an error.  You may want to note the time and inform your host so they can tell you if any maintenance takes place around that time.

It could be due to this.  A quick test should determine whether it's a problem caused by the tool or a problem caused by something else (MySQL character set? Browser language?).  The test would be to create a new Notepad file, type a line containing a quote and other punctuation, skip the formatting step, paste it into ListMail and send it.  I unfortunately do not know of other tools that do what you want, however there are some interesting results when I google for "word wrap tool".

I am very happy to hear ListMailPRO has been working so well for you.  Now let's hope we can get your issues sorted out so you can continue!

Okay, here's what's up.

Notepad is letting me format my articles without putting
in wrong characters. It works. However, I'm using other
word wrapper tools to see and one works with " and ' but it
does not work with the ... or --

I tried the suggesstion to use Lucidia Console 10 and the
margins, and still I get wacky characters.

I tried pasting it into notepad after this, and using 3
different word wrapping tools, and I still get messed up
characters.

It sure would be a stinker to have to manually "line
break" all my braodcast e-mails. It would take too much
time.

Maybe my time saving word wrapping idea belongs in the
toilet.

NOW...

I still cannot send my e-mail out to customers. It still
gives me an error. It won't work with text or both text and
HTML.

Help?

Thanks,
Nathan Blaszak

P. S. I have tried restarting my computer, and just about
everything I can think of on this end. Thanks for the help.

okay, well I think I figured it out. I normally send out
both HTML and TEXT messages but I logged out, opened a new
browser, and put in text only and it works.

I just sent out an email, finally.

It's interesting because I typically send out HTML
messages all the time. Simple format. I use Dreamweaver and
then go and edit out all the extra HTML. I checked the code
several times and it seems okay. I've used my other
autoresponder for another site and it works (not listmail).

Maybe this is the issue?

Hi Nathan,

With all this information I may be able to offer an explanation with some troubleshooting. For this I would need you to submit your info along with a link to this post in the notes.
