sending my newsletter from my bounce address?
« on: October 01, 2004, 12:49:13 am »
OK quick question if I were to send out my newsletter from my bounce@ address could this cause any problems?

What I was thinking it would do is remove anyone who sends automatic responses back to me.  With 100k+ emails on my list this can be very bad.

Any ideas on doing this?

Side note I am using Qmail and Plesk....not sure it makes a difference but it might.

I don't recommend this.  The bounce process simply reads the SECOND "To: email@addr.com" line in a processed email.  This is because the mail server sends a copy of the bounced message back.  A bounced message would look something like this:

From: mailer-daemon@baduser.com
To: bounce@yoursite.com

-- A copy of the message is below ---

From: news@yoursite.com
To: asdfjkl@baduser.com

Therefore, setting the "Send From" email to your bounce address will not result in users being cleaned out.
