Send An Email function not working
« on: December 15, 2007, 03:52:08 pm »
I was having an error when I use the "Send an Email" option. It came up with error,  "...Duplicate key .....". I saw a fix here which involved something to do with Microtime. I used the code recommended, that is, change the "Microtime" to "Uni..." Anyway that so far seems to have worked. I don't get the error when I send emails out.

However, the emails are not getting to its destination. I have 3 personal email in the list and I never received the emails so I guess they are not getting to my customers.

Please help fix this problem.

Thanks.

You could try enabling ListMail's SMTP log to make sure the messages are being accepted and queued to the server.  After that, your host would have to scan the system mail logs for email to your specific addresses to determine the final delivery result.

DW,

OK, I found the tick box for the SMTP log and ticked it. I also ran the TEST MAIL SETTINGS and it came back successfully.

Then when I sent the messages, I got a warning message. Going to the SMTP log. It sent some email then stopped after 50. This is the error that comes up:

> MAIL FROM: <bounce@gistbox.com>
> RCPT TO: <yomsyb@gmail.com>
250 OK
550-Verification failed for <bounce@gistbox.com>
550-":fail: Domain gistbox.com has exceeded the max emails per hour (50) allowed. Message discarded."
550 Sender verify failed
LM: Undeliverable. RCPT response: 550-Verification failed for <bounce@gistbox.com>
550-":fail: Domain gistbox.com has exceeded the max emails per hour (50) allowed. Message discarded."
550 Sender verify failed
. Skipping.
> RSET
250 Reset OK

Your web host appears to have a very strict limit of 50 on the number of emails per hour.  This host will not be optimal for sending list email.  Please ask your host to either increase or remove the limit or consider alternate recommended hosting.

DW,

My web host have increased my emails limit to 200. However I noticed over the last 3 days that the emails on my mailing lists are all coming back as Bounced. With the message, "List #: Bouncing User removed"

I know this is not right because everyday for the last 2 days I got at least 20 or more email addresses bouncing. And today, another list I have with 1000 users came back with at least 200 email addresses bouncing. And I am not sending follow-ups to this list. Also I have my own email addresses in each list and they also come back bounced. So it definitely not the users.

Any idea was wrong?

Thks.

If you have the "Notify when users are removed for bouncing" feature enabled you should be able to see the reason the message bounced.  I highly recommend finding a host that does not have such very low limits.  Some recommended ones are mentioned in this post.

DW,

From the message in the bounced email, it seems its got to do with no of emails /hr. But I've never had this problem before.

Also I have several domains with this host and they've done well so far. They willingly increased my email to 200 and are ready to increase further if I wish. If I can work with them to fix the problem, I'll like to give a shot.

Below is a section of the bounced email:

============================================

A user has been removed from your list: Which List

Their information was as follows:

Email: removed@example.com

All I can recommend is switch from SMTP sending to PHP mail() and incorporating the required delays to remain well under the limit.  It will take many hours to send to very, very small lists.  If your host won't increase the limit to at least a few thousand per hour I would recommend switching.  Some shared hosts allow sending to over 25,000 per day with no hourly limits.  A single server is capable of well over 100,000 messages per day, so unless the host places too many users on each server they should have no problem delivering your email.

For your safety, please take care not to post sensitive information such as email addresses or domain names to the forum.
