Mail Delivery Speed
« on: May 24, 2007, 09:38:15 am »
Hi

I have recently found that there is an hourly limit to the amount of emails i can send (doh, i just assumed there wasn't one!) although our mailings have been very successful and we have had very high click throughs on the emails we send out (so if i actually send email to every one on our list then this should increase ).
The way i see it, Listmail (using what is set in the config for mail delivery method) by default disconnects from the SMTP server after sending 1000 emails then reconnects every 19 minutes, Am i correct in this?? my limit being 250 per hour do i just set this to disconnect after 250 and reconnect every 60 mins?
Not ideal, really i need to upgrade my hosting account to s VPS with no limits, but will this work in the mean time, I should also then get an idea of how many emails i have been sending out.

thanks

Mike

Never Mind, I sorted it out myself using the throttle code.

Hi Mike,

Sorry about the delay on this one - I'm glad you figured out a workaround.  The alternative is to use the "internal PHP mail" method of sending and set the delay options.  Please let me know if you have any more questions or troubles.

What and where is the throttle code. I can only send 199 emails PER hour and need to set this up to send 6,000 emails. Thanks.

The throttle code is a customization/hack to apply delays to SMTP sending.  It should not help much in your case because PHP mail should not be overrun with such a low limit.  I have responded to your other post here:
