changeing to another host server
« on: June 13, 2005, 07:29:12 pm »
hi there:

I was using list mail on my server for a client, now  the client has his own hosting server and i have transfered the site to it, also the list mail, i have set the config to that host, but i can not log in , if i type install it wont let me in or even the user name of the host,

in summary
where i installed list mail to begin with was on my host server , just so i could get it running , now i need it to run on a new host sever , and am going to delete the one of my server.  so im am still only using one copy..

can i do this?

This is possible.  It seems that there are 2 issues:

1. On the new host you need to set up a MySQL database, username, and password and set it up in ListMail's config.php with the correct hostname so that you might type "install" and the tables are set up.

Initial setup of the db, user, and pass is normally done in your hosting control panel.  If your host uses a non-standard hostname, it should be mentioned.  If not, leave the $sqlhost line in config.php at the default "localhost"

2. You can, and probably want to, backup the old MySQL database and restore it on the new server so that all of your ListMail settings and users remain the same.

I recommend a semi-manual move to prevent problems, as per http://listmailpro.com/forum/index.php?topic=582.msg2198#msg2198

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.  If you would like me to perform a hands-on installation and migration please order it from tech support.

You may be running v1.7 files with a v1.8 database.  Try re-downloading ListMail and overwriting the files in the main folder.
