SMTP configuration
« on: August 21, 2005, 09:32:27 am »
Hi,

Listmail has been working great for the last year. (We love it!) However, we just moved to a new Web host, and we can't seem to get the configuration quite right. When I run "test mail settings," with a "mydomain" address where Listmail is located, the test comes through just fine. But once I change the address to any other address, I receive the following message.

[SMTP Server]
Is enabled?  Yes
Checking mail.. Connected!
Verifying username and password... Verified!
Connecting to SMTP server.. Connected!
Sending test email to remote address.. Problem setting receiver to Remote Test Address
The SMTP server is not configured correctly. Check your settings.

I am also unable to send a test message to an address not at our domain. How can I change the SMTP (or other?) settings to get beyond this?

Thanks so much for whatever information you can provide.

You may need to set up an email account for ListMail to use to authenticate with SMTP.

Thanks, Dean. I've done that, but I still can't send. I get the following error message:

Checking mail... Connected!
Verifying username and password... Verified!
Connecting to SMTP server... Connected!

Delaying.. Please wait..
If your mailing stops for any reason, close the window or . Do NOT Refresh!

Sending Mail  of 1..

Sending error. Check your mail settings.

Server said:554 Error: no valid recipients

When I use a test address on our server, it works fine. If the test address is not on our server, then I get the above message.

What could be causing this issue? (The subscribe and unsubscribe emails are being sent without incident.)

Thanks!

To have ListMail authenticate with a username and password requires enabling the "AUTH" option.  In your paste of output I do not see it verifying a username and password - did you try it and then disable it?

Some servers, though quite rarely, may require "authorize by checking email" be used.

Please let me know if you continue to have troubles.

Thanks, Dean.

I am using the "authorize by checking email" function. When I test my settings, this is what I get:

[SMTP Server]
Is enabled?  Yes
Checking mail.. Connected!
Verifying username and password... Verified!
Connecting to SMTP server.. Connected!
Sending test email to remote address.. Success!

If I set up the auth? feature, I get the following message:

[SMTP Server]
Is enabled?  Yes
Checking mail.. Connected!
Verifying username and password... Verified!
Connecting to SMTP server.. Connected!
Verifying username and password...Authenticating User/Pass... Verified!
Sending test email to remote address.. Problem setting receiver to Remote Test Address
The SMTP server is not configured correctly. Check your settings.

Any ideas?

Amy,

I'm stuck guessing unless you submit your information (under Other) at http://listmailpro.com/support.  I'd be happy to take a look for you.
