smtp setup for godaddy?
« on: October 31, 2006, 03:27:38 pm »
Have you had any experience trying to set up LMP on godaddy?  I'm having trouble with the SMTP settings, and found an ominous help answer about being able to send 250 emails via SMTP a day... certainly not enough for a professional company who sends out batches...

error msg I'm getting when testing email settings are:

Quote
[SMTP Server]
Is enabled?  Yes
Connecting to SMTP server..
Warning: fsockopen() [function.fsockopen]: php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known in /home/content/a/d/v/adventure16/html/3lmp/editconf.php on line 1907

Warning: fsockopen() [function.fsockopen]: unable to connect to localhost:25 (Unknown error) in /home/content/a/d/v/adventure16/html/3lmp/editconf.php on line 1907
Could not find server!

The SMTP server is not configured correctly. Check your settings.

here are my settings in case they matter beyond the above:

localhost port 25 reconnect every 1000 emails
auth no
login id and password in
always write to smtp logfile no
authorize by checking email no
internal php mail no

thanks!

Hi Brian,

Indeed, GoDaddy does have a 250 email per day limit which is not at all optimal for ListMail.  How many emails per day do you expect/need to send?  Maybe I can make some recommendations.

As for SMTP settings you should use the exact settings as given to you by GoDaddy for use in Outlook.

hmm- we already have a list of 6000 we need to send news and sale info to, at least monthly... and I want to do several lists and expand that as much as possible, so sounds like godaddy won't work for that- I guess I can host the list on one of my servint VPS accounts where in the paast I've already gotten LMP to work as it should.

Thanks for your continuing updates and tech help!  LMP rocks.
