How do I use FTP?

I've never used FTP and I'm stuck at this point in my installation.
I've downloaded  the WS FTP program, but have no idea what you mean by "Connect to ftp.yoursite.com with the FTP client and make a sub-directory..etc."

Can ya help a real novice?
I think I've completed all the install steps up to this point.

Sorry to hear about your frustration.  ListMail is a tool that is intended to be used on your web site.  It can be accessed from anywhere you have internet access at your site at an address such as http:// www.example.com/Listmail.

FTP is a tool used for transferring files from your local computer to your web host for use on your public web site.  Your web host should tell you what values to put under "Host", "Username" and "Password" to connect and transfer your files.

Do you have a web site?  Are you interesting in setting one up (Cost: ~$8/yr for a domain and ~$10/mo for hosting) so you can use ListMail?

I do have a website:  http://www.victoriatrafton.com hosted by web.com
I've upgraded it to support PHP and MySQL
I've installed ListMail on my PC and I've edited the config.php file.
The values I put in are:
$sqluser = <edit>
$sqlpass = <edit>
$sqldb = <edit>

I think I'm ready to upload files, can you step me through that?

This is pretty basic stuff.  Not to worry, there are a ton of resources that will save me some time.

First of all, you should be provided an FTP hostname, username and password by your web host.

While I could download WS_FTP (I use CuteFTP), install, and give you step-by-step instructions for uploading files with it, I fear it will not let you actually 'learn'.

A quick search on Google came up with a ton of useful tutorials already written on the subject.  I think they will be better for you.

Hello Victoria.

I just did a Google search for "ws_ftp" tutorials, and I came across this EXCELLENT guide.  http://www.ipswitch.com/Support/WS_FTP/tutorials/tours/index.htm

It plays just like a movie on your desktop.  When you get to the end of part one, part two automatically continues you through the process.  This is as basic as it gets, as far as tutorials go, so I'm sure you will be able to follow along.  No sweat.

As a matter of security, I would strongly caution you against posting username and password info in public forums.  ever.

Believe me... ListMail is worth a minor headache in getting it installed.  It's really about the best you can buy.  And once you've installed a few scripts, you'll see that it's probably about the easiest install ever!
