Error when sending
« on: November 22, 2005, 05:41:44 pm »
Hi,

I'm trying to send 1775 emails, and I get an error like this on the send page:

Sending error. Check your mail settings.

Server said:
RCPT TO: <BPD123@AOL.COM>
250 bpd123@aol.com ok (normal)
354 Start mail input; end with .
554 Denied

What does this mean? It appears to have sent out 300 emails, but then fails.  I have 1475 left to send, but I can't get it restarted?

How can I figure out who was sent and who did not get their email?

I'm not impressed!

Darcy,

This looks like a web host limit on the number of emails per hour or day.  Please talk to your host about whether or not this is true.

You should be using your commercial web host's SMTP server, or "localhost" for emailing.  Can you confirm this?  Your ISP will likely not support a large amount of commercial email, and so you might see a message similar to what you reported.

ListMail should recover gracefully from SMTP errors using the "Resume" feature.  I've replied in more detail in the following post:

I'm here to help and will do my best to ensure that your problems are temporary. :)

Hello,

I came in this morning to the same error.  I tried the resume feature.

At this point it does not look like an error / hour problem.  The account is hosted at NTT/Verio and it is a Hosting 2000 account:

http://www.verio.com/hosting-plan-2000/

Do you think that this account would have a limit / hour on it or a php limit?

Sorry, I forgot to answer your question about the method I am using.  I am set up to use SMTP with localhost.  Verio requires a mail check before send, so I set that up.

Verio is, I believe, a very big company and so it's not unlikely that they would have limits on the amount of email an account/domain can send or on script execution time.  If no limits are mentioned (ie. GoDaddy clearly states 200 mails per day per account in their email web control panel) you will have to ask tech support whether there are any such limits.
