ListMail been racked to send spam
« on: May 26, 2006, 05:03:42 pm »
Hello,

My provider is saying that my listmail is been racked and used to send spams.

Did anybody already have this problem?

Thanks,

Is it possible someone guessed your password?  You should change it right away... I'd like to work with your host to figure this out, if they're willing.  Do they have any evidence such as webserver logs, etc?  You might want to send them your IP address (http://listmailpro.com/ip.php) so they can ban anyone not you accessing ListMail at the firewall level. (They have logs of every URL request, so would see him browsing past the ListMail home/login page)

Please let me know if have any evidence/logs I can look into and/or let me know your web host and domain name by email at dean@listmailpro.com

It looks like someone may be sending subscribe requests from our
server. It looks like they are calling the signup script,
passing dummy data for the fields (like fname and lname), and then using
email addresses that they are either guessing, or have a list from
somewhere. Has anyone else had a problem with this? Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue? Thanks!

Signup spammers are not uncommon... sometimes kids will do this sort of thing just to say they "can".  You may have some luck banning the user at the IP or email address level.  Some details about how to do this can be found in the following post:

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
