Gmail webpage instead of user database pages
« on: July 06, 2006, 10:09:56 pm »
My office computer is in the shop, so I used a backup computer to publish an update to my website and send out an email newsletter today. In the process I accidentally installed an older version of Listmail over the most recent version, and every time I logged in to the program I was immediately logged out.

I managed to fix the getting-logged-out problem by downloading & installing the newest stable upgrade. Logged in OK, noticed some changes to the user interface, but was able to send the newsletter OK.

When I went to the user database for that list, however, I was unable to browse to/display more than the 1st page of the database. When I hit "next page" or selected another page number to display besides 1, my browser displayed a Google Gmail signup webpage instead! Wierd.

Any idea why this might have happened -- and, more important, how it can be fixed?

Thanks,
PegE

This is very strange as there are definitely no links to gmail within ListMail.  Could you have been using a proxy or have installed some sort of Google addition to your browser?

Yes, I thought it was seriously wierd, too.

I was/am using Firefox as a web browser. Never had the Gmail page come up before for any reason. I don't recall installing a Google toolbar....although I just noticed that there's a search box in the upper righthand corner of the browser bar right now that allows one to search Google, Yahoo. Amazon, etc. I don't recall seeing that before, but I don't usually use this computer (my main office computer is in the shop for repairs after an incident involving a glass of iced tea and a cat....sigh).

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by using a proxy.

I did have a problem a couple of weeks ago in which Listmail was logging me out right after I had logged in, and after posting about that problem here you checked into it for me and resolved it by changing the port number (if I recall correctly). When I accidentally installed an older version of Listmail over the newest version yesterday (in the process of updating my website on a less-familiar computer), perhaps that caused the problem in some way...? I was able to reinstall the latest stable version of Listmail (after downloading it from the Listmail Pro website) and was able to log in and send the email newsletter....but perhaps some little glitch remains about the port...? Would that cause the Gmail page to come up for some reason? (Don't know why it would, but that's the only thing I can think of right now.)

It seems your server was returning a strange value for a PHP environment variable which I use in some links and form ACTIONs.  The variable $PHP_SELF normally states the full script name, ie /mail/edituser.php.  Your server was returning //mail/edituser.php, with the extra slash.  I can't explain why -  It doesn't seem to be OS or PHP version related (from what I can tell)

I added a line of code to replace // with / in this variable.  I have updated your files and the changes will also be in future releases.

The reason you reached gmail was because the browser was looking up "mail" or "/mail" as a domain name and Google apparently owns something close to that or has a deal with FireFox... :)
