Text always sent in plain text format
« on: March 29, 2008, 07:31:52 am »
Just had ListMail set up and I'm trying to test sending some test messages.

I enter the messages in both HTML and text format but on receipt of the emails in Outlook Express they are always in plain text format.

Online help says
ListMail sends Text and HTML in the same message in a "Multi-part" email. The user's email client, or text-only setting in ListMail, will decide which version to display.

I receive all other email in HTML format so it can't be that my email client is selecting text only. What is this 'text only setting in Listmail'? and could it be that I have this set on. I don't appear to have any formatting options when writing the HTML message so suspect that this is probably the cause.

cheers,

Phil

Hi Phil,

You can check whether a user is set to text-only from the "User Database" page.  Click "Edit" next to the user.

Thanks Dean,

If the setting of text/HTML is set on the user, how come I don't have the formatting options for the HTML message when I compose it such as bold, italics, underline etc.

cheers,

Phil

All of the users in my list are set to HTML and Text so I don't know why I can only send in plain text.

This is really annoying as I won't want to send emails to cutomers if they are always read in plain text format.

cheers,

Phil

Hi Phil,

I would be willing to perform a test on a test list.  You can send your details here.  Please include a link back to this post along with your request.

I have updated my support ticket with this issue.

Was not aware that email has to be actually written in HTML. I don't know HTML and find it really strange that I am expected to.

Any help from anyone on this would be greatly appreciated.

cheers,

Phil

Phil,

Email doesn't have to be written in HTML if you send text-only. :D  If you mean you did not know you would have to write the HTML code, and were maybe hoping for a WYSIWYG editor, I can say this feature is coming eventually.

You could create your message in FrontPage or another HTML program and then copy and paste the code into ListMail, although this can sometimes be more confusing than learning the basics and creating your own code.

Hi Dean,

Whilst adding new products for my newly developed website in the admin area, the wyswyg has a HTLM converter and I have just tested it and the received email looks great.

Up and running!  :D
