HELP SETTING UP LISTMAIL PRO ON DREAMHOST
« on: September 01, 2006, 10:01:21 am »
Hello:  I am actually stuck and need help ASAP in setting up ListMailPro on DreamHost.  I did the download and went in and reconfigured config.php, but it's not allowing me to upload to DreamHost.  I'm not sure if the problem is in DreamHost or my reconfiguring with config.php.  Can someone please help?  I've been trying to get this fixed for three days.

Thanks, Susan

Hi Susan,

I hope to help you get this sorted.

Are you using an FTP client?  If so, which one?

Are you sure you're uploading to your main "www" public web folder, or a subfolder (recommended) such as www/mail?  (Unfortunately I can't remember the actual "www" folder name on DreamHost.)

What error messages are you getting?

When you connect via FTP, what folders do you see, where do you browse and where are you attempting to upload ListMail?

This is a bit off topic but I have problem finding a hosting service that will allow emailing to a large list (125K).  I wonder if dreamhost allows that.  Anybody knows?

DreamHost will support lists up to 5000 or so, maybe up to 10,000 - you'd have to ask.  They set limits on a per-account basis depending on your needs.  I wouldn't advise hosting a list of 125,000 on a shared provider that isn't well-informed and supportive of your needs.

I currently offer optimized-for-email hosting for a list of your size for ~$40/mo (negotiable) - about 1/3 the cost of a cheap dedicated server.  My main rule is that you may not import purchased or 'obtained' lists.  All users should be clients or have explicitly requested your emails.

Regretfully I do not know of any other mid-range hosts.
