bounce.cgi
« on: October 11, 2005, 07:59:18 am »
Hi Dean,

New to ListMail. In the learning/testing phase now. After install of bounce.cgi, executed Test Mail Settings from configuration panel. Received an email in my Adminstrator Email Address and Remote Test Address, one from ListMail Test and another from ListMail Notification respectively. I assume that everything was installed properly. Upon testing against a known bad address (one that is known to bounce), I receive an email in my Administrator Email Address (an obvious failure notice), however the bounced address remains in the active users for my particular test list. The settings are 3 bounced in 30 days. My question is when does the know bad address get removed from the active list? If I perform a manual Dailymail? Or should the script immediately move the name?

Thanks Brian.

Hi Brian,

If you received two messages from the "Test Mail Settings" feature it would seem that bounce.cgi is configured correctly.  I am not sure why you would receive a failure notice at your admin address - these messages should be send to the "Bounce To" address for processing by bounce.cgi.

Are you sure you do not have standard mailbox set up as well as the forward to bounce.cgi?  This can prevent proper delivery (though, the test shouldn't work if delivery is affected...)

You should be able to send 3 messages to the list containing the bouncing address (test it by sending to it via Outlook and see if you get a failure notice) and have the user removed (or default, flagged as Bounced) automatically.

I wish I could give you more ideas but I, too, am a little confused - have you had any success since you wrote?  I would be willing to login to your server/installation and check this out.  You can submit your information securely at http://listmailpro.com/support under 'Other'.
