Importing users and accepting duplicates
« on: May 17, 2006, 01:17:54 am »
We have used the LMP script and it works fabulous! The only option we didn't find was to accept different users with the same emailadress. Now we split the list with users who have the same emailadress in excell to different CSV files and then import these to different lists in LMP. Is there a way to load them all in one list?

Thanks in advance,

Moniek

Greetings,

There is a signup form option to "allow dupes" but it's not really recommended to use it.  This option is not currently a part of the import process. The program isn't really built for duplicate email addresses on the same list.  Most message-sending routines set a MySQL "GROUP BY" query on the user's email address, limiting delivery to one message per address.  This can be avoided with user selection and duplicate filtering turned off, but I don't see the benefit of sending the exact same message to the same email address.

I could add an option fairly easily to the import page to allow duplicates if you like, but I must admit I do not know why you would want to do this. :)

Hey Dean,

Thanks for responding so fast and sorry for being unclear. We have to send mails to all the companies we work with. We did this before with our intern mail server, but this gave problems. We send those mails directly to persons in those companies and therefor we personalize the whole mail. Some companies only have one mailbox and they print it out for this person. It may sound weird, but this is a usual way of mailing in our branche.

Using "allowdupes" on signup will get the duplicate emails into the database.  Sending from "Send Email" or with User Selection and "Filter duplicate emails" disabled should result in the expected emails.

The only problem is the import and manual addition features do not have options to allow duplicates - does this sound right?  Looking at the subject of your first post I see this is exactly what you described in the first place...  Okay.  How urgent is this?  I will be working on some new features over the next few days and the next update could be ready early next week.

Hello Dean,

Thanks for replying, this is exactly what we want: allowing duplicates when importing or with manual addition.

It's not really urgent because we have the workaround to split our user database on people having the same emailadress, but because we do at least one mailing every day it would become much easier. Next week would be soon enough, thanks in advance!

would allowing duplicate email's? when importing to an already 1 to 2 million email list, speed up the importing process? since its not checking for duplicates from that whole 3 million user email list?

Yes, probably, although I do not recommend running over 1 million addresses per dedicated server.  I am not sure when this feature will be available - it could/should be in the next update.

Hi DW,

Quote
it could/should be in the next update.

I wonder WHY you would offer services like that to a spammer??? Please keep that in mind, don't waste your time offering services to help a spammer and put features in that a normal user will NEVER, EVER want!

PLEASE!!!! don't do that.....
Thanks,
-Brett

Brett,

Thanks for your concern - your opinion is well respected and duly noted - but this time the promised feature is for the original poster of this thread, moniek.vanbaar - Quikboy simply replied. :D
