Improved Import Function
« on: May 22, 2004, 08:08:49 am »
Hi Dean,

would it be possible to build into the new version comming out soon the ability to import with rules.

example, I have a file (.txt) and it has the following setup:

firstname/lastname/emailaddress
firstname/lastname/emailaddress
firstname/lastname/emailaddress
firstname/lastname/emailaddress

and when importing you could select what is your delimeter
by selecting it and then importing. Then Listmail will
filter the file and know what is what.

Delimeter I would want:

;
:
,
.
/
\
[
]
{
}

is that possible:

Thanks,
CB

I will make note of this but can't make any guarantees.  What I recommend for now is to use the Search and Replace function of your favourite text editor to replace your slashes with commas.

You could also import your list into Excel, which does support other delimiters, then export to "CSV" format.

Oh, yes, here's one I forgot, I'd like to be able to IMPORT and specify the Day #, in the sequence that the user is in.  I'm importing from another autoresponder and I can get the day # from that responder, it would be great then, if I could import the users and have them start on the right day number when they come in.

Thanks.... looking forward to new version, how's it going?
Thanks,
-Brett

Will add it to the list.  I wonder if I can set it so you can perform a small operation on the field, ie:  Import field plus or minus 1 becomes the user's Seq #..  I am not sure if other systems use the same "Delay" method as ListMail, though.  It seems to me that the timing would be very difficult to get right for a large number of programs.
