New Features?
« on: January 23, 2006, 03:44:52 pm »
Hi DW,

Is the 'restart' option part of the newest release?

How about a 'Heads Up' on which features you are working on, in order, and when you may expect to finish them - I know there are many of us looking for that...

You already know the features I want to see next...

How are things going on the new release?  I hope by now you have the new website ready and will start charging EVERY time someone requests you look at something - YOU SHOULD!

Anyway, it's been mentioned before, if you could put up a brief list of features being worked on - and when they are expected to be done, and then let us know by uploading code with ONE NEW FEATURE at a time, that way you would get testing done one feature at a time, instead of all at once, I think that would be great....  what do you think?
Thanks,
-Brett

Busy, busy!  The new knowledgebase [Help+3 FAQs all in one] is coming along and the new site is becoming more and more accessible.  I hate to leave an LMP update this long but this has to be done.  Great suggestions - keep 'em comin'.  When I find myself programming new features I can (and prefer to) implement a number of features at once quite quickly.  I do see how the suggestion would benefit you and others, Brett, especially considering you don't want to experience ANY bugs, which is understandable and a reasonable expectation... however, due to the time it might take to release each and every feature individually perhaps, as it has been in the past, discussion and releases might be based on larger, more invasive features or changes as opposed to minor or new, relatively safely implemented, additions.

I thoroughly enjoyed discussing new features with you guys last update and hope to do it again with the next one.  I shouldn't be too long with the site and might even do an update before it's finished.

Regards, DW

I can see how anxious, users can be for new features that they have been looking forward to. Chasing up for new releases can, however, cause details to be overlooked.
I am sure that in the long run it would benefit everyone to be patient and trust DW to release updates only when he feels confident that sufficient testing has been done.
Rushing work out to keep up the pace can result in delays clearing up overlooked details.
I am sure everyone agrees how good a job DW does.
Regards.

Please re-read, this was not the intent of the message(s) I've posted, or Don.

The intent is that we are asking DW to try to make more releases that have fewer features in them, instead of making one release with 20-30 new features.

The reason being that it's much harder to debug/test a new release when it has 20-30 new features in it, and it's also frustrating for users to have to do that.

We are suggesting (and many others up here also agree - DW please post a POLL if you want to find out), that LMP should be released with shorter time periods between the releases and with less new features.

The intent is to make DW's job, and our Users job easier when we get a new release - it only makes sense, also, it would make it easier to determine when a new feature you are looking for might be available and you could avoid upgrading to a new release as frequently if it did not include the feature you are looking for.

I hope that helps clear things up - and also that DW can do something about this - of course we trust DW and his technical skills completely, we are trying to make his job easier!
Thanks,
-Brett

Hi Brett,
Yes, I can see that: my comments were not mentioned as any sort of criticism. If anyone, they could equally refer to DW. The work done and amount of development undertaken is quite awesome. You only have to look at some of the other mail system sites to see how they stagnate compared to ListMail.
I know that DW appreciates all the interest and support for ListMail. However, I see so many different avenues being chased up that I wonder just how DW can prioritize.
I can see how some list of work planned would perhaps give focus to complete items without too many other ideas being pushed at some critical time.
New features are fine, but I have also seen many comments concerning basic functions such as mail halting when sending etc. which might be more important.?
I am already impressed with what has been released and some of the proposed functions seem like a fairy tale and will walk over any competition that DW may have.
