mailing errors 354 and 550 Administrative prohibition

Hi,

I'm trying to do my first big mailing and got this error as soon as the job started:

Sending error. Check your mail settings.

Server said:
RCPT TO: <xxxxx@sbcglobal.net>
250 Accepted
354 Enter message, ending with "." on a line by itself
550 Administrative prohibition

There's a button to click to go to Config but when I get there I don't know what to fix. Please help, thanks!

Hi Sharon,

Have you been able to email small lists using SMTP?  This looks like a server-imposed limit on outgoing email.

Please contact your web host tech support and ask if there are limits to the amount of email you can send per hour or per day.  Web hosts with limits on outgoing email are not recommended for use with ListMail.

I have a VPS and when I checked with my provider about setting limits, they said:

"Yes, you can setup a limit in your WHM, Just set it up at WHM >> Tweak settings >> The maximum each domain can send out per hour (0 is unlimited)

As I can see you don't have any limits right now. The problem seems to be somewhere else. If you client provided with a bit more details we'd investigate the issue."

So it's not a server issue. Is there any way to speed up this troubleshooting process? At the rate of one exchange per day, I'm afraid of how long it will take to get this resolved. Is there a paid option for suppprt? I've already changed all of my opt-in forms to LMP and imported all of my lists and have emails that need to be going out. Thanks!

Sharon,

Usually a setting of "localhost" as the SMTP server with no additional authorization works with ListMail for cPanel/WHM.  Also, try a "Reconnect every X emails" setting of 1000.  If you still get prohibition error message you may need to use an email account to authorize with the server.
